This historic, brick three-flat in Lincoln Park was converted to a two-flat by combining the top two floors into a duplexed owners' apartment. FDA helped our clients to participate in the Illinois state historic tax-freeze program.

A vestibule (with a tile mosaic floor and a pair of glass doors) was added and the stair relocated to make the entry to the apartment feel more like a home. The redesigned stair incorporates an original walnut newel post and painted balusters. The original living room and dining room were restored including repairs to the existing plaster crown moulding. The rooms at the rear of the lower floor were restructured to create an open kitchen that connects to the combined breakfast room and family room. The top floor was reconfigured to create a master bedroom suite and additional bedrooms.
