IN PROGRESS:
Sustainable de-conversion of a 2-flat, Chicago, IL

This substantial renovation and addition project utilizes many sustainable design strategies and is exempt from building permit fees due to participation in the City of Chicago Green Homes and Green Permit programs. Reusing a large part of the shell of an existing masonry building is an important first step, but the addition of high-performance spray-foam insulation, energy-efficient windows, energy saving building techniques and ground source heat pump (geothermal) heating and cooling will ultimately mean that this new single family home will be energy efficient for years to come.

The house will be prepared for future solar photovoltaic and solar water heating (atop the all-new third floor). An elevator demonstrates commitment to future accessibility for the multi-story home. There will be equal attention paid to the exterior, with a masonry addition, new 3-car garage with roof deck, and all-new limestone facade.
